Treatment options will vary depending on each specific situation.  In most cases the use of the cpap or an oral appliance is proficient in treating sleep apnea.  However, in some unique situations the best remedy is oral surgery. Palatal surgery, tongue reduction, and laser tissue removal are of the most common used oral surgical procedures for treatment.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a Neuromuscular disorder that is described as a below normal blood oxygen saturation caused by shallow or irregular breathing.  Sleep apnea can be categorized into three variations, central, obstructive, and mixed, but is most commonly obstructive.  The abnormal breathing can be seen in spouts of one hiccup to as many as hundreds within the hour.  As this happens the brain is forced to reallocate resources to correct the abnormal breathing therefore causing the inability to sleep.  As a result of the interruptions in sleep, the body becomes fatigued, loss of focus, short-tempered, and absentminded.  The strain on the body may lead to more critical issues such as high blood pressure, acid reflux, stroke, weight gain, impotency, and headaches.
